VITTORIO LINGIARDI

M.D. is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. He is Full Professor in Psychodynamic Psychology at the Faculty of Medicine and Psychology, Sapienza University of Rome, where from 2006 to 2013 has been Director of the Clinical Psychology Specialization Program.From 1987 to 1995 he spent periods of study in the USA and Canada at the Menninger Clinic (Topeka, Kansas), Chestnut Lodge Clinic (Rockville, Maryland), and McGill University (Montreal, Canada). From 1988 to 1998 he worked at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. His main scientific interests and research areas are assessment and diagnosis of personality and its disorders, therapeutic alliance, defense mechanisms, psychotherapy research, gender identity and sexual orientation. He is author of more than 200 published articles in Italian and International journals and is the author and editor of several volumes. He has held positions on the Boards of the Italian Association of Psychology (AIP – Section of Dynamic and Clinical Psychology) and of the Society for Psychotherapy Research (SPR, Italian chapter). From 2013 he is a member of the Commission for the Assessment of the Schools of Psychotherapy for the Ministry of Education, Universities, and Research (MIUR). With Nancy McWIlliams and Robert Wallerstein, he is member of the Steering Committee and is the scientific coordinator of the new edition of the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual (PDM-2, Guilford Press, 2015, in progress).
For the Publisher Raffaello Cortina Editore (Milan) he is Editorial Director of the series “Psychiatry, Neuroscience, Psychotherapy”. He is member of the Editorial Board of the Publisher Casa Editrice Sapienza (Rome).
He collaborates with Domenica, a cultural insert of the newspaper “Il Sole 24 ore”, and Venerdì, insert of the newspaper “La Repubblica”.
